Sophie-Style Mini Scarf – inspired by the Sophie Scarf
The Sophie Scarf is one of this season's most popular accessories – a small, lightweight neck scarf that looks elegant, modern, and minimalist. It pairs well with coats, blazers, sweaters, and even simple everyday outfits. Its simple construction makes it suitable for ambitious beginners.
We knitted the Sophie Scarf in the photo with Amraya Dream Weaver alpaca yarn, color SFN43.

Why is our yarn suitable for this?
| Yarn | Properties | Feel | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gazzal Wool 175 (Merino Superwash) | Fine, elastic, easy-care | Light and warm | Everyday version, clear stitch definition |
| Amraya Dream Weaver Baby Alpaca | Very soft, slightly flowing | Luxurious feel, fluffy texture | Elegant, soft version |
Both yarns result in a beautiful, warm, but not too thick scarf.
Choosing the Size

Knitting Instructions
Cast on
Loosely cast on 6 stitches.

Increase Phase (slowly – every 6th row!)
Right-side rows (always the same):
- Knit 3 stitches (I-Cord edge)
- Only every 6th row: Increase 1 stitch from the strand between the 2nd and 3rd I-Cord stitches
- Knit to 3 stitches before the end
- Slip the last 3 stitches purlwise, yarn in front
Wrong-side rows (always the same):
- Knit 3 stitches
- Knit remaining stitches
- Slip the last 3 stitches, yarn in front
In detail, this means:
- Cast on 3 stitches knitwise ("right-side row")
- Row 1 without increase ("wrong-side row")
- Row 2 without increase ("right-side row")
- Row 3 without increase ("wrong-side row")
- Row 4 without increase ("right-side row")
- Row 5 without increase ("wrong-side row")
- Row 6 with increase ("right-side row")
- then repeat: 5 rows (wrong, right, wrong, right, wrong) without increase, 1 row (right) with increase

Continue knitting until the desired width is reached.
Recommended Width (measure, don't count!)
| Look | Target Width (measured flat) |
|---|---|
| Slim & elegant (Sophie look) | 8–11 cm |
| Classic soft drape | 12–14 cm |
| Fluffy & cozy | 15–17 cm |
Guide values:
- Wool 175: approx. 30–38 stitches, depending on tension
- Dream Weaver: approx. 22–30 stitches
→ but you stop as soon as your scarf reaches the desired width.
Middle Section
Knit without increases or decreases
Length as desired:
| Version | Length (Finished Measurement) | Wearing Style |
|---|---|---|
| Short | 80–95 cm | simply tie a knot |
| Standard | 110–130 cm | wrap loosely once |
| Long | 140–160 cm | wrap twice / more styling options |
Decrease Phase (mirroring the beginning – also every 6th row)
Right-side rows (always the same):
- Knit 3 stitches (I-Cord edge)
- Knit to 3 stitches before the end
- Slip the last 3 stitches purlwise, yarn in front
- Only every 6th row: Knit the 3rd and 4th stitches together
Wrong-side rows (always the same):
- Knit 3 stitches
- Knit remaining stitches
- Slip the last 3 stitches, yarn in front
In detail, this means:
- Scarf is long enough: it's time for the first row with decrease ("right-side row")
- then 5 rows (wrong, right, wrong, right, wrong) without decrease, 1 row (right) with decrease
Repeat until 6 stitches remain.
Bind Off
Loosely bind off → Weave in ends
Only gently wash or steam, dry flat
Do not iron.
Tips for a Professional Look
- Knit loosely – especially with Baby Alpaca, otherwise it will be stiff.
- For the I-Cord edge, pull the yarn slightly at the beginning of each row to keep the I-Cord taut.
- After knitting, gently steam or wash the scarf, then dry flat.
- Do not iron! Gently shape it.
